I'm not sure if I could help, but have you tried (or are you able to) delete your cookies? Deleting file cookies and media cookies may not be able to stop the computer from crashing, but it might allow you some more time between the crashes.
(If you've never deleted your computer cookies before, then I can provide you with some tips).
Another thing you can try is reversing a latest update; some of the more recent automatic software updates could cause software issues and media lag.
